My name is Collette and I am a quilter from Scotland. I have been a patchworker and quilter for over a decade and love to share what I have been making here.

school's out (soon)

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Well the school prize giving was very good.  Emma got a prize for being the most successful learner in her primary one class which was a surprise for her.  She was so pleased with herself!

School finishes at 1pm on Friday here in Scotland.  We aren't managing a holiday this year but are planning day trips to keep them amused.  Hoping for some dry weather too.

Today I received some gorgeous bee blocks from Janet for my Bee a Brit Stingy scrappy trip around the world quilt.  Thank you for the little extra too.  :))

Those are my trainers yes I am still working out with Jillian Michaels although now onto a different dvd!

My Happy Go Lucky charm pack came last Friday and I love it but I do not know what to make with it.  It is such a beautiful line of fabric I want to do it justice.  Any suggestions very welcome!

And last but not least a sneak peek at something I have been working on!  I suppose there may be a little pattern here if anyone is interested in me sharing a tutorial on it.  It involves english paper piecing and applique.  Very straightforward techniques too.

I am off to have my first cup of tea of the day!!  Then work on some bunting a lovely friend has asked me to make her.

Take care

All about the bees!

Hello.  Well today I have the school prize giving to attend.  It is usually a lovely wee time of the kids singing and various bits and bobs being handed out.

This week my letter box has been rattling a lot with lots of little packages from the lovely girls in Bee a Brit Stingy.  In this bee we work from our stash on the block our queenie has asked for.  This month was my turn and I have for scrappy trip around the world blocks.

These are the ones in so far ( still early yet!) and I think they look lovely!  I will decide on the layout once all the blocks are in but I love the scrappy nature and yet the colours tend to relate??

I am also looking forward to receiving a little treat from the lovely Justine at Simply Solids.  I treated myself to this little charm pack by Bonnie and Camille.  I have been lusting after Happy Go Lucky for a while now and dithered and then Justine put a status on facebook saying the shop now had these precuts available.  So I had to order something!

I have no idea what I will make but it will be gorgeous using these yummy colours and prints.

Have a great weekend everyone!

A finish!

Remember these?

They came flying through my door made by my lovely friends in our Hipbees quilting bee.  I sent them my precious Field Study fabric and they returned many gorgeous blocks like this.

Well yesterday I stitched the last stitch of hand binding, popped her in the washing machine ( with a colour catcher just in case!)  and line dried her.

Thank you so much to all my Hipbee buddies for helping me turn Field Study into a beautiful quilt all for me.  This is the first quilt I have ever made just purely for me!

Even the dog tried to get in on this one!  My eyes are all squinty in this one (hate getting my photo done!)

The stats -
Field study (patina colourway)
natural cotton
pomegranate sashing Klona cotton
backed with pink cotton sheeting
binding - Valentina Ramos vines
Hand quilted in grid pattern with white perle cotton
Sashing hand quilted with DMC fluorescent light effects in pink.
Made with love and time!

Did I tell you........?

About my Lavender bags??  I got some gorgeous Liberty squares from Ali's shop Verry Berry Fabrics and thought, what better combination than lavender, linen and Liberty fabrics!

So here they are and I am selling them in my little Etsy shop.  I love the feeling of Liberty lawn cotton and the loops let you hang them all over the house!

Very relaxing too as I am sure many of you know.

I have been trying to get my wonderful Hipbees quilt finished.  The binding is on and I am at the hand stitching point so nearly there!  Hoping to get some decent photos later in the week if the weather allows!

Siblings Together bee block.

So last week I received my first package of fabric from Lynne of Lily's Quilts to make our first Siblings Together Bee block.

Lynne supplied PB and J by Basic Grey from Moda.  Moda are very generously supplying the fabrics for the quilt tops for these quilts. This is just awesome.

Lynne wrote up a very clear and concise tutorial for making this block.  I really enjoyed putting this together and think it will make an awesome quilt once everyone's blocks are in!

The blocks from other bee members are coming along thick and fast too!  The top is by the lovely Joanne and the second by lovely Carol.

From these so far you can see it is going to be just stunning!  I will share more photos as blocks are made.  Lynne will be putting these all together to make a mighty fine quilt!

All about the bees!

My goodness I was sure I blogged this week!  So sorry that I haven't been keeping things fresh around here but life has got so busy.  I am planning on catching up on all the blogs I read over the weekend too. :)

This week I finished a custom order for a lovely lady.  She makes beaded jewellery and wanted some smart quilted mats to work on.  The customer chose the fabric combinations and left the rest to me.  She is delighted with them and that makes me happy!

This week has also been about bees. Quilting bees that is.  The lovely Lynz is Miss June in the Hipbees and sent the most gorgeous fabrics along with this little fella.

A fimo bee pin!
Lynz asked us to make an improv log cabin block.  This is my first improv block and I loved making it.  I think I will be trying some more soon!

needs a little press!

I am also a member of a stash quilting bee, Bee a Brit Stingy,  and this month it is my turn to be queen bee.  My hubby thinks that is hilarious how we call them bees etc in the world of quilting and patchwork.  I didn't manage to jump on the scrappy trip along bandwagon first time round so decided I would like to have one of my own.  The ladies are making beautiful blocks for me in bright, fresh colours and I have already started receiving some.

These two are from Sheila of Bluepatch Quilter.  She even added a cheeky wee fat eighth of lovely fabric!  I love the little birds!

I received two gorgeous blocks from Charlotte of Displacement Activity also.  I love the Anna Maria Horner ( always a fave).

I have 3 days left of my 30 day shred dvd!  I can't believe I have got to this point.  I am feeling fitter and stronger and a little leaner.  It all takes time and patience of course as well as hardwork and being careful what I eat.  I have another dvd to start which seems great.  So just plodding along with it at the mo.

Thanks so much for reading.  Oh and I am hoping to hold a wee sneaky giveaway in the next wee while.  I don't normally bother with number of followers and such like but I want to do something for my loyal readers.  I will tell more soon!

fresh sewing day and more!

I think I have just made it in time to squeeze a wee blog post in on this 1st of a new month. June already!!!! Time flies.

I am joining up with Lily's Quilts to tell you what I have been working on over the last month of May. I haven't had many finishes at all but I have become involved in something very worthwhile and exciting.

Here are the finishes for May.

A baby quilt for my Etsy shop.

Bee blocks for Bee a Brit Stingy queenie of May Catherine.

Bee blocks for Hipbees May queenie Sarah.

custom order for an etsy customer.

You may remember me writing about joining a new quilting bee last month organised by Lynne at Lily's Quilts.  This group of fellow blogging quilters have joined to form this bee -

We are being sponsored by some wonderfully generous companies -

Moda are supplying Fat Quarter bundles each month to make the quilt.
Lady Sew and Sew are kindly supplying wadding.

AND - The companies below are generously donating backing fabrics.

Isn't that just awesome???!  I am bowled over by the generosity of all these companies.  I am humbled to be part of this also.  To help create quilts made with love and that will bring warmth and comfort to lovely children.

Have a lovely weekend.
