not a busy bee

Hello! Sorry for not being around but my youngest has been full of the cold the last few days.  I haven't got much sewing done as a result.
I did get Di's Hipbee block finished however!
I love the colours in this.
I also received these in the post....
and changed a bulb!!!
Thrill a minute I am!

block attack

The sun is shining but there is a real nip in the air today here.

Yesterday I got a pile of Bee blocks off in the post.  The ones you won't have seen are for a Siblings together quilt our Bee a Brit Stingy ladies are making.  Never heard of Siblings together?  Then read all about it over here at Lily's Quilts.

I have also been experimenting and came up with this wee block.  The green is a practise run and I will be using mostly blues and pinks I think in the actual one.  I have written down all the bits and bobs for this block so I have a little pattern for it.

My dad is a bit of an antique dealer and is always raking around the markets and charity shops for things.  He frequents the infamous Barras every weekend.  He picked up this brilliant patchwork book for me.  I think it was first published in 1958.  It is great and is mostly about EPP but I particularly loved this quote from it.  Wise advice indeed in the last sentence.

a smashing time!

Well after Susan's terribly unfortunate incident with her iphone the other day I proceeded to have a  smashing time this morning.

Fumbling around in the dark for my glasses I knocked over an empty drinks glass that was on my bedside cabinet and it promptly cracked all over the floor!  No blood thankfully but top that off with spilled sugar all over the kitchen floor, and you can imagine the morning I have had!  Oh and a head cold from hell!

So I am still around just a bit fuzzy headed and ill. I did manage to get some cute camera cases made for my shop yesterday.  I am going to try and get these added to my shop today.

Not much else sewing going on at the moment due to illness.  Lots of ideas mind you so that is always good!

puppy power!

Why do varmints have the ability to be drawn to whatever quilting related activity you are doing??  If it's not a cat sitting on my cutting mat then it is the pup trying to rearrange my quilt blocks!

My voile scarf I made being modelled by Spot.  He really didn't mind!

So this week has been a week of finishes despite having the kids off on holiday!

I got this table runner and baby quilt finished, photographed and listed in my Etsy shop.  I really love them so much.

And thanks to all you wonderful Hipbee members I finished my quilt top!!  I am totally in love with it and now I need to think of how to quilt her ( it is a she) next!  Thank you again for making the blocks!

And now I am at loose end!  Need to get some backing for the Field Study quilt and have one bee block to do and some camera cases for the shop.  Otherwise I need to get my teeth into something else!  I will get my thinking cap on this weekend.

On the go

First day of our school hols here.  Today we are off to visit my parents.  Over the weekend I got the binding stitched on the Marmalade baby quilt.

Then I decided on this for my Hipbees quilt....

On Saturday I received some goodies I ordered only on Friday from Eclectic Maker.  Love the fabric folding!
Blogging from my mobile for first time! Hope it works xx

almost finished projects

Today seems to be a day of almost finished projects!

I received my last bee block from the lovely Fiona at Sew Fi.  It is lovely isn't it? Now to think about putting all my beauties together!

I have almost finished my baby quilt for my shop.  I really  hummed and hawed about how to quilt this one.  I begun hand quilting in a lovely blue and then pink but nope, it just wasn't right.  I tried following the curves of the peels but again it just didn't look right.

So thanks be to the wonders of Instagram and helpful friends.  Lynne (Lily's Quilts) suggested diagonal crosshatching.  I marked it out and thought yes let's do it!  Oh and quilted with the stunning Aurifil which really makes quilting enjoyable.  That and lovely wadding!

I LOVE it!

Now I can't decide on binding, lol!

love the back!

Simpatico straws mint or golden both match the yellows and blues in the quilt arggh!

And I have just about finished the binding on my wee table runner for the shop too!  I totally love this as well. The colours, the yarn dyed linen the quilting.

Such a good feeling to be almost finished some things isn't it?? Then I get to do it all again!!!!

hurry up Spring!

Well it is Monday again and isn't it feeling so much like Groundhog day at the moment??  ( funnily enough it was the other day ).  The kids are due a holiday from school next week as it will be half term for them.  I think we all need a little break from the old routine!

So I am almost finished my new table runner for my Etsy shop and I am totally in love with it I must admit!  Just the binding to finish.

I also received some lovely fabric I ordered from Alice at Backstitch on Saturday morning.  I had no idea the Simpatico and Pearl Bracelets in Ice Skate would go so well together!  There is also Twinkle, Twinkle from Constellations by Lizzy House, and some black and white Sketch.

Oh the rain, sleet and snow are coming down sideways at the moment and it is blowing a gale right now outside my window!  Ugh, roll on Spring!

In other news, one of the Bee groups I am in, Bee a Brit Stingy are getting together to make a quilt for Siblings Together.  I am sure many of you are aware of this wonderful project and if you take a look at the article here at Lily's Quilts, Lynne explains the purpose of it all excellently!

So I have a few blocks to do for that this week too!  A baby quilt to machine quilt ( was going to hand quilt but it didn't look right when I tried it out!) and I am sure there is some other stuff too!
