busy bee!

I am currently in two quilting bees.  The Hipbees and a new kid on the block - Bee a Brit Stingy!! Us Scottish have a reputation for stinginess so I thought why not join this little group of bees! You can find us here.

Bee a Brit stingy

The new bee does not begin until January next year but we are doing a fun little mini swap of pincushions as a warm up!!

Here are my Hipbee blocks for September for Judith and Jan who is October's Queen bee!

Judith sent us beautiful packs of specific colourways of fabric to make friendship braids.  I had calming green!!

The lovely Jan is Miss October and asked for wonky stars!  My favourite!  She sent lovely bundles of precious Denyse Schmidt Flea Market Fancy and I came up with this;

My other Hipbee buddies have been busy whipping up wonkies so please take a look!

I also made this little cutie for my etsy shop.  Still trying to increase my items!

Have a lovely weekend!

Friday Funnies

No sewing photos today but some funny quotes and a poem for this Friday!  There seems to be a lack of quilting related jokes on the web but I managed to find these wee gems!

You Know you are a Quilter If........There's more Fabric in the House than Food"Fat Quarters" are not the heaviest part of your bodyYour ironing board is always set up but you never iron
You think of your job as an interruption of your quilting
You pet FabricPeople are always picking threads off youYou can measure a scant 1/4 by eye"Featherweight" Doesn't mean Boxer
Your "UFO's" are not from outer space
You clean up your sewing room & they think you are

WARNINGWhen I am an old woman
I shall wear Purple
With a Red Hat which doesn't go
and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on
brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals,
And say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement
when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops
and press alarm bells
and run my stick along
the public railings
And make up for the
sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in
my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers
in other peoples gardens...
But maybe I ought to
practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too
shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old,
and start to wear purple.

WIP Wednesday

Wow two posts in one week!   Look at me go!  I have had a bit of a post drought the last week or so.  Doesn't life get too busy the older we get??? Kids at school, puppies, husband, all gets in the way of quilting and sewing!  However, life would be very boring if that were all I were about!

Anyway today is Work in Progress Wednesday over at Lee's Freshly Pieced blog.  She is off to Sewing Summit soon!!

So here is a peek of what I have been working on.

Christmas table topper for my shop.

matching set of fussy cut Robin coasters

Christmas mini patchwork bunting for my shop.

Koi embroidery (Urban Threads design)

Log cabin table topper.

Hope you like!  Why not hop over and check out the work by others at WIP Wednesday! x

too long!

Hi all!  I have had a hectic week with the kids being off for the September weekend Friday and Monday and puppy watching!!!

I hope everyone is staying safe and being careful durring this mental weather we are having.  I haven't done a huge amount of sewing but today I made log cabins to create the top of a new table topper for my Etsy store.

Here she is!

excuse the flash in the first few photos due to the dull weather!

stay safe! x

Tuesday, 18 September 2012

Hello!  I have been sitting staring at this blank page for too long thinking about what I am going to blog about today.

Do you ever get moments when you just sit and nothing forms in your head???

I haven't a huge amount of sewing to show at the moment as I am in the ideas phase again.  During which I think of far too many different potential projects and do maybe one of them!

Yesterday I made a little table topper quilt top and started some Christmas coasters.  Yes I know the C word but with an Etsy shop it is best to start creating as early as possible.  Here are some sneak peeks.

The fish (Koi) is coming along nicely but is a lot of work.  I am just picking it up in the evenings and doing a bit here and there.  It is a labour of love.

I am also planning a patchwork session for the kids at a craft club I help out with at church.  Any ideas of simple, cool, quick patchwork projects for age 8 - 14 years would be welcome.  I can have access to a machine or we can sew by hand but obviously machine will produce faster results for the girls.

Off for another cuppa while puppy sleeps and I shall try not to make eye contact with him!

new fabric!

Hello!  I knew that post title would grab your attention!  Well I do have new fabric.  In fact a full fat quarter stack of Field Study (Patina colourway) from the Village Haberdashery.

My husband and I have been married for 10 years today and rather than get me something made of tin (phew!) he opted for fabric.  I have been drooling and swooning over this range online for a while now and was resigned to the fact I couldn't afford to buy any more fabric.  So I am very happy!

The photos really don't do this range justice at all.  It truly is beautiful in real life.  I had reservations about the leopard print but when I looked at it in the flesh I must say I am coverted.  It is classy and gorgeous.  I really love this fabric so much!  Thank you hubby!

I also finally finished this table runner for my Etsy shop!  I have put many hours into the creation of this one but do love it.  Anna Maria Horner fabric again!

Last but not least the fish!  I have begun some embroidery on him.  Yes he is a he and I love him!  Design purchased from the wonderful Urban Threads.

Have a wonderful weekend! x

hand sewing rules!

Yesterday I spent most of my day hand sewing hexies.  I want to make some tiny hexie brooches for my Etsy shop as they are so cute!  So out came the needles, Aurifil (great for whipstitching!), and hexagon templates.

I do love hand sewing.  I find it relaxing, meditative and love watching it all come together.

I also received my free fat quarter from the awesome Spoonflower!!  Isn't it gorgeous??

I am beginning some new embroidery projects too!  When I finally decide on colours!  I found these fantastic designs at the Urban Threads site.  They are very reasonably priced and instant PDF download.  They can be machine or hand embroidered.  So I chose this Japanese Koi and some cute teacups!

Back to puppy watching and hand sewing!

getting wonky

Happy Friday everyone!

I haven't done a huge amount of sewing this week due to caring for our new puppy Jack Russell, Spot and taking dd to the dentist yesterday among the usual stuff!

I did manage to get my Hipbee block done for Jude this month!  The other ladies in the bee have produced beautiful versions in different colourways of this fun to make block.

The wonky friendship braid or Free pieced chevron is fun to make and quick to go together using this tutorial.  Here is my version using the lush fabrics Jude sent over.

I am also quite excited about joining in with Katy's Spinning stars quilt along which has a Flickr group and has been blogged by Katy here.  I am very keen to get my hands on some Field Study by Anna Maria Horner but we shall see what I use for this!  Still planning!

spinning stars - let's do a quilt along!

oh yes and a puppy photo!! the cats are beginning to accept him!

This was his first day! He is a little bigger and mad already!

A table runner waiting for me to finish hand binding.

A mini all for me above my sewing machine to remind me to drink tea!

As usual I have tonnes in my head but not actually begun yet but it feels good to have achieved what I have so far!
What have you been working on this last week, why not share at Freshly Pieced Work in Progress Wednesday.

Brit Quilt Swap 3!

Well the shipping window for the Brit Quilt Swap 3 is underway and I posted my package on Friday.  I have been informed by my partner that her mini has been received ( plus extras) and is loved!  Phew!

Today the door knocked just as I was beginning to sew and Colin brought me my large parcel.  He laughed at the anticipation in my face as I unpacked the package.

This is what I received -

my mini!

and this -

a zipper pouch which full of these -

lovely fabric scraps lots of them!

I was honoured to receive my beautiful items from the lovely Jan at Isijem who incidentally is a new found fellow bee in the Hipbees!

I am very happy and excited about hanging my mini above my sewing machine!   I have attached my little Hipbee charm to my zipper pouch too!
