not enough hours!

Do you ever feel like there just aren't enough hours in the day?  To sleep, eat, sew, look after small children, chase pesky cats(mine!),  clean, launder clothes, and then do it all again the next day!

I have quite a bit going on just now.  The kids have been full of colds which is hindering my sewing action but they are the priority so I don't mind too much.

The main thing I am working on is a custom order for a friend for a table runner with 8 placemats and coasters.  This is a very sneaky peek of what I have been doing so far. Can't share it all at the moment.  She chose the fabrics and I suggested aqua but I want the rest to be a surprise.

These are corners of the blocks that make up the table runner.  They are derived from a nine patch/disappearing nine patch block which my friend likes the random effect of.  The runner is a whopping 2 metres long. Large table!  I am adding 2 inch borders all round in the plain ruby red Stof cotton.

I am very pleased with how it is looking.  It is a bit wrinkly here, needing ironed again!

I also received my fabric for my biblical block wall sampler quilt.  I am planning to crack on with this after the New Year.  Judith from Rags to Bags wants to make some too and a friend of hers.  So I was thinking of making it a wee quilt along with a flickr group.  Nothing too hard or fancy so let me know if you would want to do this.

I love these fabrics!  They will be great colours in my living room.  They are quite grannyish but I like old fashioned fabrics as well as all the gorgeous modern prints.  They are classic and hope they won't date.  A lot of the biblical blocks I have come across use small squares and triangles so the prints will be quite broken up which I think will be nice.   What you think?

Sorry if I haven't been keeping up to date with all your lovely blogs.  I am trying but time is slipping away from me just now!

The best laid plans!

Well what a day I had yesterday!  Planned on doing a whole lot of cutting and sewing with the wee one at nursery.  Only to be informed nursery was cancelled due to no heating in the building.  Booo.

We returned home and about half an hour later my little Emma comes screaming through from the kitchen shouting; "is it gonna bleed, is it gonna bleed?". She hates blood.  She whacked her head on the table and had a cut eyelid and big bruise and lump forming on the other side of her forehead!  Of course I panicked and was all set to head for A + E at 100mph but thankfully hubby kept me sane and we got it sorted!  Thanks to the lovely nurse at the local surgery.

Anyway wee one is fine and dandy now thankfully.  I am just super cautious at every run and jump just now in case another messy accident occurs!!  You would think I hadn't dealt with this sort of thing before. :(

So sewing ......... never happened understandably.  However, I managed a little cutting of my own last night with them safely tucked up in bed.

I am making a table runner for a friend from all of this gorgeous fabric.  Cutting loads and loads of 5 inch squares.  Around 40 done so far!

There will be plain white in the mix too.  These are just lovely aren't they? Looking forward to seeing it come together.  Heading off to catch up on all your lovely blogs now!

Full of plans!

Full of plans!

Hello everyone!

Sorry I haven't posted since last week but things have got pretty busy round here!  I finished a Christmas stocking order last week and am just about finished another.  I have also been busy making some placemats which I will share once completed.

Oh and it was my birthday on Friday!  36 years young and as Colin, my other half, helpfully informed me, I am closer again to 40 than I am to 30!! Got to love husbands eh?

So I was very fortunate to get some money for my birthday.  And guess what I didn't blow it all on fabric!  I was sorely tempted to look into buying an Accuquilt Go baby thingy but decided I wouldn't use it enough.  So I bought some clothes AND ordered some fabric and bits and bobs I needed.

I have great plans with the fabric.  I have never made a sampler quilt so I am going to make a small one for my living room wall. I thought it would be nice to try some Biblical inspired blocks so I am going to try some of these out - I will be using different colours to these but they just give you an idea of the blocks I am planning;
Crown of Thorns Block
crown of thorns
Jacob's Ladder quilt block Garden of Eden quilt block Walls of Jericho quilt block
These are some of the easier ones I plan on trying out first.  I may alternate them with something simpler, I am undecided yet.

And the fabrics I have chosen are classic prints -

Sara's Stash 11 (per 1/4 metre)  Sara's Stash 12 (per 1/4 metre)  Sara's Stash 13 (per 1/4 metre)  Sara's Stash 14 (per 1/4 metre)

Sara's Stash 15 (per 1/4 metre)  Sara's Stash 16 (per 1/4 metre)  Sara's Stash 17 (per 1/4 metre)  Sara's Stash 18 (per 1/4 metre)
Sara's Stash 20 (per 1/4 metre)

So what do you think?  I am really looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into this one I must admit!  Photos of fabric as soon as it arrives!

Fresh Sewing Day October gone!

Ok this is the first time I have linked up with Lynne and the gang at Lily's quilts for fresh sewing day.  I have to share what I have achieved over the month of October!  Unusually for me, quite a lot.  I set up my etsy shop and started making for other people.

Embroidering names for the first time for Christmas stockings!  I love the look of them.

I finished this table runner.  I love the colours, the prints and the hand quilting and the binding!
 More embroidery practise.  Little snowflakes.
A Christmas stocking for my shop.  I love the pinwheel
block and I would just love to put a pair of these
on my feet! So cosy.

A few quilt blocks for Judith and her lovely friends for the Bee Blessed bee.
A sneak peek at an order for a friend I received. I just love the gingerbread fabric and the dots! I am loving making these too.
A small fabric order to add to my stash and get making some more lovely items.

I am NEVER this busy with sewing normally so it is nice to have some items to share with you.  Going to look at what all you other lovely people have been up to!
Bye for now and we will see what November holds.
